Once you have fixed all the details of your wedding ceremony and reception, it’s time to turn your mind to ordering wedding stationery. Generally, you should order at least 3-4 months prior to the big day and send invites out 6-8 weeks before.
Save-the-date Cards
If your wedding date falls during a holiday period, it may be a good idea to begin by sending save-the-date cards. Many people book their next annual vacation immediately after their last one and you don’t want to find that a key guest or two cannot make your big day because they booked a holiday before receiving your invite! If you do send save-the-date cards, do so immediately after booking your wedding venues (and up to 12 months prior to the big day).
Ordering your Wedding Stationery
For the rest of your guests, ordering your wedding stationery 3-4 months prior to the wedding date should suffice. However, if you are ordering handmade wedding invitations and/or using the services of a calligrapher, you may consider bringing that date forward a little to allow the artisans extra time!
Sending out your Wedding Invitations
Generally, the main constraint to sending out your invites will be the finalisation of your guest list. As soon as the final list is ready, you are! Do not be tempted to send invites out in batches (e.g. main guests first then others later once you have finalised your list). This will only cause lots of awkward phonecalls and/or insult friends and family.
Do not send your invites any later than six weeks prior to the big day. Eight weeks prior is the optimal time (particularly if you have a large number of out-of-town guests who will need to make travel and accommodation arrangements). [enter our store]
